Wearing Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday, all brought to you by Five Things Friday.

Well, it hasn't even been one week, and my plan to blog every day has failed. FAILED. I even remember thinking, I need to post on my blog. Then I'd get on my computer and think, eh, better not.
So here I am, making up the last few days, since I was too lazy to actually post on those days.

Wearing Wednesday:

So, I actually wore this on Thursday (shhhh!) but I'm going to post it anyways.

This is what I wore on the 4th of July! Yay!

What I'm Wearing:

Dress: Savers

Necklace: Christmas Present (from JC Penny)

Scarf: my Mom's closet

Belt: off an old shirt

Shoes: my Mom's closet

I loved that this had a totally retro/vintage look to it. I just got the dress Monday at Saver's (for $3.50!) and I thought with the red and blue accents, it was perfect! This dress is my new favorite, I think! It's super lightweight, so it's perfect for these Arizona summers, but can easily be layered for Utah winters! Ah, I love it!

Thoughtful Thursday:

So, I finished my first tie that I'm actually sending off! It is super awesome! So I'm sending it to Jake, of course! I was just going to send him the tie and maybe a couple of other things in a small package, but my mom had a flat-rate shipping box she wasn't going to use, so the package ended up being so much bigger than I planned. In fact, I haven't even filled it yet!
I would like to take a moment to thank Pinterest for helping me come up with ideas for this package. And I would like to return the favor and show what I put, with the cheesy sayings to go along with everything, you know, just in case there are people like me who need inspiration.

I went with the theme of "Summer Fun" because, well, it's summer, and it is such an easy theme!

(I don't know why this pic is upside-down...) This is the tie I made!  :) The note says "So you look cool this summer!"

"You are one 'Hot Tamale' of a missionary!" (I'm not sure if you are supposed to call missionaries "hot tamales", but whatever.)

"You already have the Light of Christ in your eyes, you don't need sunlight in your eyes too!" Can you believe these are Dollar Store sunglasses? I should have gotten myself some...

Tootsie Rolls, inside the water bottle as a little surprise! "I hope you're on a roll!"

"The armor of God doesn't protect you from UVA/UVB." (I don't even know if Jake is riding a bike or driving a car... if its a car, this won't be very helpful. :P)

"I am a huge fan of the work you are doing!" 

"Chews the right!" Haha, punny!

"I 'mint' to tell you, you are an amazing missionary!" (Alright, so I actually tell him that in every letter, but I couldn't think of anything else to say...)

"Soak yourself in the spirit!" on one side, and "Have a 'ball' on your mission!" on the other. I don't even know if he will use these water balls or water balloons, but they are summery.

I decided to throw in extra batteries for the fan. "You've got the Power!"

BUBBLES! (I almost didn't put these in. I LOVE bubbles.) "Don't let anyone burst your bubble!"

"Drink water. Don't die. Ok? Ok." I was running out of creative juice at this point....

I thought this was super clever! I turned a Pay Day bar into a P-Day bar! Heehee!

So, if you have any ideas of other things to throw in, let me know! (Of course, I'm sending a letter with the package!) I'm pretty much super excited to send this!

Five-Things Friday:

Here are five of my favorite movies. In no particular order, since my very favorite changes from day-to-day.

Poofy dresses, big hair, singing and dancing, John Travolta in drag,  James Marsden AND Zac Efron.  Yes. Just Yes.

My dream wedding dress, singing, talking animals, animation AND live action, James Marsden, Peter Pettigrew. :)

4) 27 Dresses

Dresses, humor, James Marsden (Am I sensing a pattern here?), she ends up with the cuter guy, and weddings. 

5) Pitch Perfect

Singing, dancing, Fat Amy, Skylar Astin, SOCK PUPPETS. Aca-amazing!

Well, it was even hard to narrow this list to five. Maybe next week I'll do my next five favorite movies. Just because there are so many more! :)

YouTube Tuesday: Missionary Fun

I have seen a few funny videos of missionaries lately. And since missionaries probably consume 90% of my thoughts now-a-days, I find them extra funny. I mean, when I think of missionaries, I still think of these older guys who are just super serious all the time. I forget that they are my age, and they, too, like to have fun! I think that my friends on missions are completely different people, when in reality, they are the same guys as before they left, they are just living their lives a little differently. These videos help remind me of how awesome and fun missionaries are. :)

Moment Monday: A Spiritual Moment

So, my moment for this first "Moment Monday" actually happened just today. It was completely unexpected but definitely spiritual.
I was set apart this evening for my new calling in my Single's Ward. (For those who don't know, a calling is like your job in the ward, and getting set apart means getting a special blessing for the calling.) I was called to be part of my Relief Society Meeting Committee. I thought that getting that calling was weird since I am only going to have it for two months, and the activities we plan are monthly activities. I didn't understand why they would need me to help plan two activities, one of which I probably won't even be able to attend. I thought it was silly, but I just decided to go along with it.
At FHE, I was pulled aside to get set apart. I had been set apart for other callings, and the blessings were always encouraging, but I had never gained a lot of spiritual insight from them. I was asked for my full name, and the blessing began. I knew from the moment he said "Kai Leigh Bowen" that this blessing was not his words, but the words of the Lord. The blessing was exactly what I needed, it gave me comfort, advice, and insight into my life that I had never had before. I was told that the Lord knows my struggles and everything I am going through. I was advised to read my scriptures daily and to pray morning and night so I can receive answers from the Lord. I was also told that I was very close to God in the pre-mortal life.
I have definitely been very thoughtful lately and have had a lot on my mind (a lot of it having to do with people...well, more like person...who have recently left on missions). This blessing brought me joy and comfort and excitement. I know that the Lord is on my side. He wants only what is best for me, and if I put my life into His hands, He will bless me beyond what I can ever hope for.
And that is what I plan to do. I do not need to worry about things (although, I'm sure I still will), because if I exercise my faith, and do all that I'm supposed to do, there is no way I can be unhappy.

Out With The Lame, In With The Awesome

Ok, so I have been thinking about how lame my blog is. Also, how lazy I am. I really want to make my blog a fun place, and a little less of a journal. More like a blog. So, I decided to post specific things each day (haha, like I am ever going to blog every day) and hopefully my blog will be a little less of The Diary of Kai and a little more The Super Awesome Blog of Kai. I will try it out this week and see how it goes.

The days will go as followed:

Moment Monday- Whether it's an awkward moment, a funny moment, a sad moment, an awesome moment,  or any other kind of moment, I will write about it. It might not necessarily be from that week, but they will all be true stories from the life of me. (Or a friend, because sometimes my friends do funny things.)

YouTube Tuesday- I am keeping this. I will post a video or two (or three or four or...) I might explain why I chose the video(s) I did, or I might not.

Wearing Wednesday- (Name pending) An outfit post, since I started this blog to be a fashion blog in the first place. I don't have a nice camera, so most of my pictures will be taken in a mirror. I might explain my outfits, or tell a story or something too. I don't know.

Thoughtful Thursday- I will just write whatever's on my mind. This may not happen very often, since I'll probably just skip it...

Five Friday- Five songs I like. Five movies I like. Five books I like. Five random things about me. Five random things about turkey. I don't know, but there will probably be a list of five involved with these posts.

Sewing Saturday- Have I sewn anything cool lately? Or ever, really? Well, I will show you here. 

Sum-Up Sunday- Basically my journal day. I'll tell about my week and stuff. 


So, I don't know if I will keep this up, and I might end up combining days or doing them out of order sometimes. But, hopefully, with these changes, my blog will be less boring.

Monsters, Mission Farewells, Skirts, Letters, Ties....Oh My!

Last week I went to see Monsters University with some friends! It was so much fun and such a cute movie! I loved it! (Maybe not Toy Story 3 loved it, but I definitely did love it!) Afterwards, we went to WalMart and bought cake to eat since it was one of my friend's birthday! I have never seen a cake disappear so quickly! It was a really fun night. 

Over the weekend, my friends and I played assassin one night and watched The House At The End Of The Street the other night. Kourtney stayed at my house Saturday night because her parents went out of town. On Sunday, we went to our friend Spencer's farewell. His ward is my old ward, so it felt a little weird to be sitting there with all these people that I know, but haven't seen in over a year. It was his and another guy's mission farewell and it was pretty cool. I got a little teary eyed. :') I love Missionaries!! 

On Monday, I helped my friend Olivia make skirts for her friend's bridesmaids. (The following contains my very stubborn opinion of wedding party attire. Do not get offended, its an opinion. So, yeah...) I do not think bridesmaids should wear skirts and shirts. They should wear dresses. Also, they should not be made out of plain old normal cotton. And they should not be made by amateur seamstresses. This is a WEDDING, not church, or school, or every-day life. The end of my rant. Anyways, it was fun! Then I babysat. Then I worked out. Woohoo. 

Tuesday I babysat, wrote Jake a letter, and went to work. Super fun. And Kourtney stayed at my house!

Wednesday was flippin' AWESOME! I got my first letter from Jake! (Or should I say Elder Rogers? I don't know.) I danced and sang and jumped for joy and stuff. And I read the letter. It was from before he even went to the MTC, and I had just gotten it. Also, enclosed in the letter was a playing card he had accidentally taken from my house when we played games one night. But anyways, It was a happy day! And Kourtney stayed at my house! 

(I feel like I need to say this: I was not, nor am I currently dating Jake. He is seriously just one of my best friends. I know the way I write about him is probably misleading in that way. I have had other friends leave on missions, but since I am so close to him, it has been hard. Writing about him makes it easier. Oh, also, to clear something else up, I do like him. So that also might be why I talk about him a lot.... I'm sure as time goes on, I will forget all about him. I'll probably be married by the time he gets home anyway.)

Today, I babysat and went to the eye doctor. I got new contacts, even though only one eye barely changed. I also made a tie. Not well, I may add, but not completely horribly. It is definitely recognizable as a tie, and probably people who don't sew or know anything about sewing wouldn't see much wrong with it, but it is definitely not worthy of sending to any of my missionary friends. Luckily, there is enough fabric to make 5 more. :P I am excited to make the rest and send them off! I really hope my friends all like them, because I really do! And Kourtney is staying at my house!

Life Since March Part 3- Arizona

Well, since I've been home from California, some pretty significant things have happened.
1- I applied, and applied and applied for jobs. 
2- Out of all the applications I turned in, I had three interviews. Three. That's it.
3- I went to my interviews and....
4- I got a job! I work at Gymboree! Which is great, because I love clothes, and I love kids. 
5- I watched every single episode of How I Met Your Mother that is on Netflix. For the first time ever. I know, I'm behind the times. But I am converted! Haha!
6- My friend introduced me to a family she works with, and they use me for babysitting all the time. It's awesome, I'm making more money from babysitting than I am from working.
7- I have a gym membership. I go about once a week, because I'm lazy, and I only like doing the Zumba-type classes, which are always at night, and I do have a social life....
8- I spend a lot of time with friends. Ok, I spend an adequate amount of time with friends. FINE, I spend a very little amount of time with friends. I would like to spend more time, but people are busy. And sometimes I feel like hanging out with a specific person, and if they can't hang out, I just don't feel like doing anything. It's bad. Especially when the person I feel like hanging out with isn't even in the state.
9- I made a shirt.
10-I want to make a skirt. But I'm really lazy.
11- I did a refashion on a t-shirt I had. It turned out ok, but not great.
12- I have gotten at least 5 Circle K Polar Pops a week. 
13- I am in the single's ward for my area. It's pretty cool. But I do feel like I'm not quite meshing in yet. 
14- I got a calling in the single's ward. I can't say what it is yet, but it's pretty cool.
15- I have learned a few songs on guitar. My favorites to play are Kiss Me (Sixpence None the Richer) and Bluebird (Christina Perri).
16- I've had a few waffle parties. Those are kind of my thing.
17- I tried to teach my friends a game I learned at BYU. Some got it, others were just utterly confused the entire time...
18- I've seen a bunch of movies. Some in theater, some from Redbox, some on Netflix, some from TV that I recorded.
19- I drove with my mommy up to Flagstaff to pick my brother up from EFY. Which I never got to go to. One year, I almost did, but for some reason it would NOT let me sign up. It was so dumb. AND that was the year I was going to room with my friend, and when she got back, she told me that in her company were 2 AUSTRALIAN BOYS. I MISSED THE AUSSIES BECAUSE THE STUPID COMPUTER WOULDN'T LET ME SIGN UP. I'm not bitter...
20- I had to say good bye to one of my best friends. Which you already know. Sorry, I can't stop talking about it. :P

Well, I just hope the rest of my summer is more eventful than it has been. Because it may sound like I've done a lot, but I mostly just sit at home watching TLC. 

Life Since March Part 2- California Baby!

Early Sunday morning, I went and picked up my friend Devery and we took off for Cali. We could not for the life of us figure out how to get the cruise control working on my car, but after like 45 minutes, we got it working somehow. The trip went smoothly, until I got off on an exit by accident and we drove around some random town for 20 minutes before getting the GPS to work again. Well, it ended up being fine, cuz we got to my grandma's house five minutes behind our friends we were meeting there. We went inside, talked to my grandma for a little then set up our sleeping arrangements. Spencer and Tyler were in the downstairs bedroom and Devery, Haley, and I shared a room upstairs. There were enough rooms that us girls didn't have to share, but it is way more fun to share a room!

We then went to Julianne's house for dinner with her family, and it was so fun! Her whole family was funny and nice. Then we went back to my grandma's and went to bed. 

The next morning, Julianne came to my grandma's house and we all went to the beach. It was a pretty nice day for the beach, and the water wasn't too cold. We brought a bunch of snacks with us, so that was our lunch at the beach. We boogie boarded, and walked around and laid in the sun, and buried Dever in the sand.

After a while, we went back to my grandma's house and showered and got dressed and played card games and had dinner! Then we went BACK to the beach, but just to walk down the pier and stuff. We also walked down on the sand, even though the beach was technically closed.

Then Julianne went home and the rest of us went back to my grandma's. That's when I realized I had forgotten my part of me and Haley's secret plans! So we dropped off Spencer and Devery to make our sandwiches for lunch the next day, and Haley, Tyler, and I drove around Seal Beach trying to find a Walmart or somewhere to buy more secret surprises  We got to a Walmart and bought noisemakers and other fun stuff to bring to Disneyland!

Tuesday morning, we woke up all excited because it was Spencer's birthday! Oh, and because we were going to the Happiest Place on Earth! Because it was off-season, the hours for the park were shorter than normal, so we made plans to make the most of this super fun day! We had a HUGE surprise planned for Devery. We had all gotten matching shirts with an inside joke on them, but didn't tell her about them. So we all put them on and put jackets over (even though we definitely didn't need them) and piled into the car! We blasted Disney music and sang at the top of our lungs to prepare us for the awesomeness that awaited us. We got to Disneyland and met up with Julianne and her dad (who works at Disneyland so he could sign some of us in for free). Julianne was not wearing a jacket over her shirt, so Devery saw it and laughed. Then we all took off our jackets and she saw all of them. I pulled out hers from my bag and she was really excited! Then most people went to go park the car in the parking garage (Julianne's dad had to be there so we could get free parking). Spencer and I walked to go meet them outside of Disneyland since we couldn't all fit into the car. I am not going to tell you the super funny, awkward side-story to this grand adventure, but I might some other time. Maybe. :) When everyone got back from the parking garage, we all went into the park and got out first picture. We then went to get Spencer a birthday button. I had secretly passed out the noisemakers to the group, excluding Spencer, so when the lady at the counter said "happy birthday" to him we pulled them out and blew them! This continued on for the entire day! It was then time to start our Disney adventure. Unfortunately, two of the best rides were closed (Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain) but we decided not to let that get us down. We rode rides, and ran around, and went crazy all day long! After being at Disneyland for a while, we headed over to California Adventure to go on the fun stuff there and to see Car's Land. Car's Land was AMAZING! I literally felt like I was in the movie! The lines for the rides at Car's Land were super long, so we only went on one of them right at the end of the night. We took a bunch of crazy pictures and had an absolutely crazy, fun, amazing time!

After the park closed, we took a few more pictures, then went back to the car. Some of us wanted to get In-N-Out and the others didn't. So Spencer, Devery, and I were dropped off at In-N-Out and the others went and bought a frozen pizza (I think?). We then went back to my grandma's house and ate and stayed up talking. Then we went to sleep. The next morning, we all woke up later than we had planned, and we all went to breakfast then it was time to say goodbye. It was hardest to say goodbye to Spencer, since that would be the last time I saw him before his mission, and since I'm living with Haley and Julianne next year, Tyler is going to be going to BYU for Fall semester, and I was going to be driving back to Arizona with Devery. 

It was such a fun trip, and I already miss them all!
