So, I am sure you are wondering how my media fast went. I will tell you day by day how it was.
Sunday:
This was the easiest day, probably because I didn't have a whole lot of time to miss media. I woke up for church with an actual alarm clock and not my phone alarm. That was weird. After church I went to eat lunch at the Cannon Center. When I came back, I took a nap until it was time for ward choir. Then our ward had a fireside. After the fireside was the worst part of Sunday. I had a few hours in between the fireside and tunnel singing, and I wasn't tired, so all I wanted to do was check Facebook and listen to music. Since I couldn't do those, I tried to figure out what else I could do. I ended up coloring a picture. In silence. I figured out how much I listen to music. Listening to music is almost a constant, 24/7 thing for me, so the silence was killing me. Luckily, it didn't last long, and soon I went to tunnel singing. After tunnel singing, I hung out with some friends. We stayed up pretty late talking, so I went straight to bed afterwards without even thinking of media.
Monday:
I woke up and got ready (in silence,) and headed off to my classes. Since I always take hand-written notes, that fact I couldn't use my laptop didn't bother me much. In my sewing class, we usually play music while we sew, but since I was on the media fast, my class didn't play music. After my classes, I was bored. I had done all of my homework on Saturday, before I started the media fast, so I couldn't do homework, and sitting in my room doing something was so boring since I couldn't listen to music. I ended up straightening my hair (which killed a whole hour of time), then I went down to the lobby to hem the skirt I made in my sewing class. I couldn't text my friends to see what time they were going to go to dinner, so I just went at 6:00, and luckily my friends ended up being there. After dinner we had a ward Halloween party, and then I hung out with friends. It wasn't hard to be without media until I had to get ready for bed. I couldn't check my facebook, or my email, or anything.
Tuesday:
I don't know why I was feeling so lazy Tuesday morning. I really just didn't want to get ready for class. When I finally did get ready, I realised I needed to leave for class or I would be late. Since I couldn't check the weather (like I usually do) I didn't know that it was supposed to rain until I got outside and saw the dark clouds. Since I spent so long straightening my hair the day before, I had to go back and get an umbrella, just in case. So I ended up being late for my class, which was cancelled anyways, so it didn't matter. I would have known my class was cancelled, if I could have chacked my email before class. So, since I wasn't in class, I decided I could meet up with my friends for devotional. Too bad I couldn't text them to find out where to meet them. Well I eventually found a friend who called my other friend to have him meet me for devotional. After devotional, and my last class of the day, my friend met me in my lobby so we could hang out and so I wouldn't die of boredom. It was fine until our other friend came, then they started looking at her computer and looking things up on the internet. I just sat there, unable to join in. I then went to dinner and after dinner, I went to work. Here is where my biggest problem with the media fast came. I clocked in and headed over to where the event was (I work for catering) and the doors to the building were locked. I walked all around the building and couldn't find anyone, so I headed back to the Wilk to see if they had finished early. There was only one person there, and she called the people I wass working with to find them. I had to go back to the event venue, only to see they had finished cleaning and all we had to do was go BACK to the Wilk and wash dishes. I had been called in early to work, but didn't get the message since I couldn't use my phone. After work I sat in my room waiting until midnight when I could turn on my phone and computer again.
Overall, the experience wasn't horrible. I learned how much I appreciate having media in my life. I also learned that my friends are pretty supportive and that they care about me.They would go out of their way to make sure I knew when they were going to places, and they helped me out whenever I needed. I must say the hardest part was definitely not listening to music. Since I am almost always listening to music, it was definitely strange to have silence in the background. I also learned that I should probably get a watch, because not knowing what time it is is definitely hard. It was a good experience to learn how truly dependent I am on media, but that it is possible for me to go without it. I would probably never willingly do this again, but if for some reason I have to do it, I know I can survive.
So, before the media fast happened, something pretty spectacular happened. I was walking back from helping my friend with his chemistry lab, when we saw a deer. A flipping deer on campus. Like holy crap! I never see deer in Gilbert! So we stopped and were taking pictures of it. I naturally start singing to it like Giselle in Enchanted. We keep taking pictures and I keep singing when all of the sudden 5 more deer come running out of nowhere! I felt like a Disney princess! :D It was sooo cool!!!
Speaking of Princesses, I started watching Once Upon a Time with my friends last week. It is really as good as everyone said it was. :)
Can I just tell you I love cold and snow? I really do. It was snowing while I walked to my physics class today. It melted almost as soon as it hit the ground, but it was pretty much awesome. But I have realised that I am definitely going to need to buy some winter essentials. My coat that I wore like three times a year in Arizona in the middle of winter in the middle of the night is barely warm enough here in Provo in the fall during the day. I also need to get me some cute gloves and cute beanie hats. And scarves. (I hate scarves, but I can see how they would be nice.)
So, since I missed Youtube Tuesday, I am going to make it up now. Here are some videos.
This is definitely me in the Snow today. :)
1:12 is what I felt like when those deer came running when I sang.
So, I hope you all have had a fantastic week! And I hope you have a fantastic weekend! :)
